2007 Youth Day
PSC's first annual Children's Youth Field Day was held Saturday August, 18 2007. There were approximately 35 children in attendance and many parent observers. The overall event was a huge success, and the children really enjoyed themselves, experiencing many sports activities first-hand.
Quite a number of PSC members helped out and did a tremendous job of setting up booths and instructing the children in fishing, rimfire rifle shooting, muzzle loading, 3-D archery, trap shooting, and trapping. Lake Chair, Rick Batista donated the food and cooked a ton of great food for everyone.
The PA game commission donated the guns and bows and arrows, which were hand-delivered to the shoot by both Wildlife Conservation Officer - Daniel Sitler and PA Game Commission Student Intern - Stacey Caroll, who offered a tremendous amount of assistance and volunteered to help with any future club functions where they may be of assistance. Many thanks goes out to them and everyone within the club who helped make this a successful day for the children!
Monies were raised by a turkey shoot held by Tony Torres, and a rifle tip directed by Max Stroud was sold and the proceeds were donated to the function. $200 was donated by the Conservation Officers of Pennsylvania (COPA) for event shirts, which all the children received for participating, and the PA Game Commission representatives in attendance donated wildlife VHS tapes and a wildlife print which was raffled off, further adding to the pot for the next children's event. It appears that next year's event will be bigger and better, and seed money & member donations are already in house to kick things off.
With so many distractions out there today waiting to take children down the wrong path, it's great to observe how adults working together can direct our children toward better options in life, and even greater to be able to witness a the making of a future sportsperson.
Once again, thanks to everyone involved. Your efforts were huge!!
