Paris Sportsman's Club holds a series of fun filled shooting events each year. These shoots are typically for PSC club members, but the roster is often open to non-members when team registration is lacking. Typically, the shoots consist of eleven to twelve 2-man teams, but allowances will be made for more shooters, should the need arise. These are amateur events, so if you are new to the scene, don't be intimidated, fun is the central theme behind all shoots and all skill levels are welcome.
Trophies and/or cash are awarded to top team scores and the overall best single-shooter score. This provides an opportunity for better shooters to win awards, should their partner have an "off" day. A "bonus-shot" or "50/50" shot is often integrated into most shoots, giving all shooters an additional opportunity to win an award or cash for the single-best bonus shot on a particular event.
The course is arranged differently for each yearly shoot, so you won't get bored shooting the same course year-after-year. Weaponry requirements change from shoot-to-shoot as well, but all weapons are required to be "PA LEGAL," as defined by the laws of the PA Game Commission. If you can legally hunt with it in PA, you can use it at the shoot. Targets are comprised of paper bulls eyes, metal spinners, metal knock-downs, sporting clays, moving devices, and anything that makes the events challenging and fun.
A shooter's meeting is held before each shoot, and member input is instrumental in finalizing the course arrangement and weaponry to be used in the events. The set up day is typically a Saturday, with the actual event day being the next day (Sunday) for all shoots. While we strive to hold each shoot in the same calendar month each year, the exact dates are not always the same from year-to-year, so be sure to check out the club calendar or the home page news section for specific details of each shoot. Attending meetings is highly recommended, as the planning stages of these events are discussed with the membership body beforehand.
Registration is typically $20 to $25 per person and includes lunch and dinner for all shooters and helpers. An award ceremony follows afterwards, with trophies or cash prizes being handed out. Helpers are always needed, and the more help we get, the faster teams will able to move along through each station. If your are a member and need an opportunity to earn work hours, or are considering entering future shooting events, working as a helper is a great way to gain insight on how these events function.
